While “Fun Runs”Are Fun –The MOST Amazing Race In Pittsburgh Promises Excitement; Cash and Prizes; And More For Teams Of Two

Carnegie, PA, July 5, 2016All across the country, The Salvation Army is being amazing –and creative –in its fundraising efforts.   The organization’s MOST Amazing Race is gaining popularity and new events are starting every year.  The event concept was created by The Salvation Army in Minnesota, started in Pittsburgh in 2009, and in 2016 will be run in ten cities nationwide.  

The Pittsburgh MOST Amazing Race is open to teams of two who are looking for a unique active experience.  Slated for Saturday, August 27th and patterned after a well-known television reality race show, The MOST Amazing Race combines physical, mental and fun challenges that propel participants to act outside their comfort zone.  Beginning at Pittsburgh’s Station Square, contestants will converge all over the city in an effort to win their share of $5,000 in cash.   “Our goal is to raise funds and awareness for youth programs in Allegheny County,”said Major Tom Lyle, The Salvation Army’s Allegheny County Coordinator.  “Proceeds from this event will help us to provide a safe haven, as well as nutritious food, recreational activities, and educational opportunities for children to help them thrive to reach their full potential.”

 

Participants must raise a minimum of $250 per team in order to gain entry into the race.  Raising additional funds for The Salvation Army will earn the top fundraisers great prizes and advantages in the race.  A total cash prize purse of $5,000 will be divided among the first through fifth place teams.  The top 5 fundraising teams will be rewarded with valuable prize packages, including first class airline tickets from Delta, queen size mattress sets from Mattress Firm, tickets to sporting and cultural events, restaurant and retail gift cards, hotel packages, and more.   Prizes will be distributed at the after-party, generously sponsored by The Hard Rock Café.   

 

From the starting line, teams must successfully complete a challenge that will lead them to the next challenge location, and so on, completing anywhere from 12 to 16 challenges along the way to the finish line.  Approved modes of transportation include Port Authority buses, light rail system, or inclines; and of course, walking and running.    

 

“This event provides an excellent opportunity for corporations to have their employees participate as a team building exercise –either as participants or volunteers!  Also, incorporating the various challenges equals the playing field for those who might not be trained athletes.   It helps to be in good shape, but you certainly don’t need to be a marathon runner to be competitive in this event,”said Lauren Brant, The MOST Amazing Race Coordinator for The Salvation Army.
